This is a question I get all the time – what is the ‘perfect age’ to take my kids to Walt Disney World for the first time? Ask ten different people and I guarantee you won’t get the same answer twice! As a matter of fact, there is no one right or wrong answer out there. It’s a personal decision; you’re the only one that can make the right choice for you and your family. But while we’re on the topic, I’ll share the story of my daughter’s first visit with you.
As you may have guessed, Disney World is my favorite vacation destination so it makes sense that I was eager to take my daughter on her first trip. Before she was even born, I would dream of watching the fireworks over Cinderella’s Castle with her in my arms or meeting Mickey Mouse for the first time. Finally, I’d have a little princess to share my love of this magical place with!
Family and friends were surprised (and critical) when I decided to take her on her first trip at three months old. “Why would you do that? She’ll never remember it, Kayla! She’s going to scream the whole flight. You won’t be able to ride anything in the parks!” I second guessed myself a lot before we traveled, but let me tell you, folks – it was the most magical trip ever.
Will she remember it? No, probably not. (Okay, definitely not.) But I won’t forget one second! She slept through the whole flight (both flights, actually) and had no problem adjusting her schedule while we traveled. We had the most amazing character meet n’ greets – Cinderella, Minnie Mouse, Tinker Bell – the pictures are priceless. We rode all kinds of things – it’s a small world, Peter Pan’s Flight, Journey into Imagination with Figment, Under the Seas with Nemo & Friends, etc. – any ride without a height limitation is baby friendly! We even went to Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party and explored the International Food & Wine Festival.
We had so much fun that we went back when she was six months old, and we’ll be back again just after she turns ten months old! I’m fortunate – I’m an annual passholder, I have family to travel with, and my job allows me to work from just about anywhere. My circumstances are different from yours; the right time for me and my family may not be the right the same for you – in fact, it probably isn’t. The point of my story is this: any age can be the ‘perfect age’; the ‘perfect age’ is the age that you want it to be!
